Reading
I utilize
a huge library of resources tailored to each family's needs,
these are some of my favorites.
Taking
Charge of ADHD, By Russel Barkley. This author is a
leader in the field of ADHD from a psychological and psychosocial
perspective. Anything written by him is worth reading. He has
excellent advice on behavior modification programs for the home.
Running
on Ritalin, and Should I Medicate My Child, By Lawrence
H. Diller, M.D. These books are written by a developmental Pediatrician
who uses medication to treat ADHD but is also critical of how
medications can be over prescribed.
Raising
Resilient Children, By Sam Goldstein and Robert Brookes
- This book provides a good model for how parents can foster
the lifelong skill of resiliency to deal with life's challenges
in school and beyond.
The
Special Needs Child and Engaging Autism,
both By Stanley Greenspan. These books provide excellent overviews
of the growth and development of the special needs child, with
a very optimistic approach.
