Dr. Aronson-Ramos
"I am always grateful and humbled to glimpse into the life of each and
every family… Allowing me the chance to contribute to positive change is an
opportunity I cherish".
Judith Aronson-Ramos,
M.D.
For new patients who would like to meet Dr.
Aronson-Ramos before scheduling a full evaluation she has created the Preliminary
Consultation Visit. This thirty minute visit is for the parents only
and should be scheduled online as a Preliminary Consultation. This is an
opportunity for parents to meet Dr. Aronson-Ramos and discuss their
concerns at length. Another option is a thirty minute Phone Consultation
if this is more convenient. At the end of these sessions families will have
a clear understanding of the evaluation process, the different treatment
approaches available, and if necessary referral to the appropriate
clinician, treatment program, or resources if she is unable to meet your
needs.
Most families however, will begin the evaluation
process with the Initial Consultation (90 minutes) or a Treatment Consultation.
The Initial Consultation is an office with the parents
only to obtain a comprehensive and detailed history of the child and the
current problems. In addition, the goals of treatment and therapeutic
options are discussed.
The next step is the Child Only Visit (60 min)
or evaluation. This may occur in the office or in certain cases at school
or daycare. This is Dr. Aronson-Ramos' to perform a neuro-developmental
evaluation. It is also an opportunity to get a clinical impression, develop
rapport with the child or teenager, and establish a baseline. This is
essential when it comes to assessing the effectiveness of different
interventions that may be tried in the future.
The third of the initial visits the Feedback Visit
(60 min) involves the parents only to discuss the evaluation, including a
review of any prior reports, records, and phone interviews. This is also
the time when the treatment plan is established in detail. Many parents
find this a crucial visit as it offers an opportunity to ask questions and
develop a deeper understanding of their child's difficulties and the impact
on the entire family.
Due to the individualized nature of consultations this
is only a blueprint. There may be situations where the schedule of initial
visits is different. In particular if you have been referred directly by
another child development specialist who has already performed
comprehensive testing, the Treatment
Consultation will be the appropriate first visit. This includes the
parents and child together at the first visit and may be scheduled when
comprehensive diagnostic evaluations have already been performed and the
focus now is on treatment planning. Also in cases where a child is very
young, four years of age or less, and the history and assessment can be
completed in the same visit.
Follow-up Visits (30 or 60 min) are tailored to
the needs of the family and the child. If a child is on medication or just
starting medication they will be seen regularly for monitoring. In some
situations further evaluations are recommended and a follow up appointment
is needed to incorporate these results into the treatment plan. Most
parents find it valuable to have regular visits to monitor progress. What
is needed will depend on the child, family, and course of treatment.
Note: Office visits can sometimes be difficult
to schedule. Therefore, I can occasionally offer a replacement Phone
Consultation when the need arises..
Every patient will have open access to me and my
resources. I am directly available to all of my patients and offer many
ways to communicate - office visits, school visits, cell phone, and
confidential email. I prefer to have long term relationships with families.
This is especially important because most problems in children are
developmental and change over time. I am also happy to work as a part of a
team with other professionals to provide a multidisciplinary approach. It
is important for families to understand that I spend a considerable amount
of time outside of the face to face visits through review of records,
interviews with teachers and other involved professionals, ongoing
research, gathering background information, facilitating communication
among involved caregivers, and utilizing the expertise of professional
colleagues where appropriate. This is probably the most unique feature of
my consultations and care.
Phone Calls/Appointments/Medication Refills:
Dr. Aronson-Ramos personally handles all phone calls,
scheduling of office visits, and medication refills. This allows for
maximal privacy as well as personal attention.
Urgent calls will be returned as soon as
possible. All non-urgent calls will be answered within 48 hours.
Your patience is appreciated, as all of my patients receive the benefits of
direct communication with me. In the event of a true medical emergency
you should always contact 911 immediately.
All appointments should be scheduled through
this website using my secure online scheduling program. Most
patients have found this process convenient and simple to use. You will
receive an email confirmation of your scheduled visit immediately, and an
appointment reminder 24hours prior to your scheduled office visit. To
secure the most convenient times and days I recommend you schedule as far
in advanced as possible, and make follow-up appointments if they are needed
at the conclusion of each visit. I appreciate 24 hours notice if you need to
cancel so I may schedule other patients during that time. Because I have a
very personalized practice I am unable to accommodate families who
chronically do not make their scheduled appointments or frequently cancel
their visits. In these unfortunate instances I will be unable to continue
to treat your child and will require that we end our relationship.
Medication refills require 48 hours notice. Keep
in mind during office visits I am very careful to be sure patient's
prescriptions appropriately indicate refills where this is indicated.
Specific procedures for medication refills will be discussed during your
office visit. Remember there are some medicines that will always require a
handwritten prescription and cannot be called into your pharmacy.
There are rare times when I will be unavailable to
return patient calls due to vacation. At these times you will need to
address any urgent medical needs with your primary care physician.
